Urban Development

Have you ever noticed that since 2015 more than half of the people live in cities? In Germany it's over 70%. The trend is rising, both globally and nationally.

The rural exodus, the enormous urban growth and processes of urbanization present cities, city governments and their inhabitants* with unprecedented challenges. The future of society is therefore increasingly being negotiated in cities. Not least because cities are to a large extent responsible for climate change, creative solutions are needed to make cities sustainable - also in Kiel. Do you deal with the future of cities in your studies, in your thesis or in your professional activity?

Are you interested in creative solutions to meet global and local challenges? Then a place at the Institute C20 is the right place for you. With the development planning for ALTE MU by the Planning Office for Urban Transformation, you can experience at first hand the hurdles that urban transformation faces towards sustainability. Questions on inner-city densification, sustainable urban development, smart city infrastructures (e.g. e-mobility), participation processes or alternative land use models and much more can be dealt with in an application-oriented way and generate a very real added value by supporting the development of the ALTEN MU in the public interest.

Relevant subject areas and topics: Urban sociology and critical urban research, urban planning, landscape and open space planning, urban and neighbourhood development, historical urban studies, urban studies, urban design, integrated urban development, public welfare orientation, social city, creative city and much more.
